Installation and Use of StrikeGuard Lightning Warning System in tandem with the NEA Meteorological Office's Lightning Alert System

The Club has been using the National Environmental Agency's (NEA) Meteorological Office's Lightning Alert System for the past five years. At the last Annual General Meeting in July 2011, Members had requested the Management Committee (MC) to consider using two lightning warning systems to maximise safety in preventing lightning strike accident.

MC acceded to the request and have installed the StrikeGuard Lightning Warning System with effect from Sat, 26 Nov 2011. After a week of training and trials with the StrikeGuard Lightning Warning System, we would like to inform members that the StrikeGuard Lightning Warning System is now used in tandem with the NEA Meteorological Office's Lightning Alert System. The management will monitor and compare the efficacy of the two lightning warning systems and make their recommendations to MC at an appropriate time.

For now, the lightning alert siren shall be sounded upon the first receipt of a lightning alert from either system. The 'play resumed siren' will only be sounded on the later de-activation signal of the two systems.

Your patience and understanding is appreciated should play time be shortened due to the extended lightning active period, as your safety is of utmost importance and hence the above measures being put in place.

Increase in Subscription Fee

The need for subscription increment was first announced at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in July 2011, and was due to be implemented with effect from 1 Sep 2011. However, the Management Committee (MC) was requested by the members present at the AGM to consider revising or delaying the increase till a later date. After much consideration, the MC has decided to defer the increase to 1 Jan 2012. The MC felt that the increase in the monthly subscriptions of the Ordinary and Social Members were inevitable as the Club needs to meet the increase in the operating costs due to inflation. The increase in subscription is also needed to kick start the Club's Land-Lease Renewal Fund in accordance with the Club's 10 Year Financial Plan. In line with the Club's family friendly image, the MC has decided not to increase the associate and junior memberships' subscriptions this time round.

With effect from 1 Jan 2012, the monthly subscription rates for principal Ordinary Member and Social Members will be increased to $140 and $70 respectively.
