Club Reverts to Using One Lightning Warning System

Dear Members,

At the last Annual General Meeting of 23 July 2011, the issue of the Club's lightning warning system was discussed at length. A petition signed by 111 members had raised concerns over the reliability of the National Environment Agency's Meteorological Services ("NEA MET Services") system and suggested that the Club to look at an alternative lightning warning system.

Members suggested at the AGM to run two systems simultaneously. After much deliberation, the Management Committee decided to adopt the suggestion, using both the StrikeGuard system and the NEA MET Services system. These systems would then be monitored for a period of one year to enable the Club to decide which would be the safer system.

Since the implementation of both systems on 26 Nov 2011, the Management Committee and Management have received substantial feedback on the inconvenience caused to members, their guests and private events at the Club. This has prompted the Management Committee and Management to review whether we should continue using and monitoring both systems for the initial one year period or to revert to one system soonest possible.

Safety has always been the primary concern for the Club in deciding which system to use. The data collected from both systems over the past months has been inconclusive in terms of safety and length of non-playing time. After much deliberation, the Management Committee has decided to continue with only the NEA MET Services system from 1 May 2012.

Thank you.

Sylvan Braberry, General Manager
